What Are We About? I'm glad that you asked! Obviously, we, like you are interested in helping people in need and we do this because we care about easing the burdens of people living on the streets.
So we give donations to them, most of the time this donation is in the form of money and it's great to give out of the kindness of your heart to do this but are you really helping or hurting with your donations?
Let's not second guess if it is or isn't helping those people who receive your donations.
Rest assured we'll make sure your donations are for the right people for the right reasons and to be quite frank not to the drug dealers whose main business is selling drugs to homeless people living on the streets.
Honest Handouts is like a filter to "scrub" your donations to make sure it's not going to be used to line the pockets of drug dealers and enable addictions.
Your Donation will be used in the way you intended it to be used, for helping people with their basic needs.
Imagine that you just drove onto an off ramp, and you see a person with a sign saying "Hungry, Please Help" so you give to that person and go on your way. Did you really help? is your donation now going to a drug dealers' pocket? here's a question, if you're really hungry do you think you would have a better chance standing in front of a food establishment to receive a meal if you're hungry? Are you being an enabler so someone who's just going to buy drugs or alcohol?
Now what if you saw that person with a Honest Handouts Badge with a link to our website that shows that individual being "Clean & Sober."
would that assure you that your donation is going to be used for the betterment of that individual? We think it would and that is the whole purpose of us at Honest Handouts.

My Story
I consider myself a realist. I see the growing number of people standing on off‑ramps and street corners holding signs asking for help—many saying they’re hungry.
I live in Southern California, but I’ve traveled to major cities across the country, and the situation looks the same everywhere: more and more people experiencing homelessness asking for donations.
It raises a real question: Are we actually helping? There are hundreds of shelters, food kitchens, and community programs in almost every city—places where someone can get meals, shelter, and basic essentials. So what’s the deeper issue?
A major challenge is addiction. Many shelters have rules prohibiting drug or alcohol use, which means some individuals choose not to stay there. And the reality is that a portion of the donations given on the street may end up supporting those addictions, unintentionally enabling the cycle.
At Honest Handout, we focus on something different. We support individuals who are clean and sober—people who are also struggling, but who are actively working to stay off drugs and alcohol. They need help too, and we’re here to make sure your donations go to those who will use them responsibly and honestly.
Thank you for choosing to make a meaningful difference.
